Recent Updates
The SureChem site is updated on a regular basis. Below, you'll find a history of the changes that have been made, with the most recent changes appearing first.September 5th 2011 - Support For Accelrys Draw 4.0
SureChem now offers support for Accelrys Draw as an alternative structure drawing tool. Users with Accelrys Draw installed and running Internet Explorer will see an option to select the new tool on the main search page or alternatively in the preferences section.
August 5th 2011 - Performance Improvements and New Search Filters
The Digital Science elves have been hard at work scrubbing out the various tubes, widgets, and wotsits that make up the SureChem servers. The result is that searching is now significantly faster, particularly when searching for documents associated with structures. The search portal has also been enhanced, promoting keyword, assignee, and date filtering for structure searches. These filters can be used to focus and speed up your searching, meaning you get more relevant results, faster.
June 14th 2011 - Free PDFs for SureChem subscribers
SureChem subscribers now have access to free downloads of PDFs of US, EP and WO patent records. Formerly SureChem had to charge for these as we sourced them from a supplier that charged us on a per-document basis. We have since changed suppliers, giving us a dedicated feed that allows us to simply include the PDFs with the subscription price, which remains unchanged.
May 10th 2011 - New Display for Structure Search Results
We have deployed a new display for viewing results from chemical structure searches, based on feedback from our users. Instead of a list view with associated patents, structures are now displayed in a matrix that enables quick review and comparison of results. Clicking on a structure of interest will then show related patents.
March 26th 2011 - Redesigned SureChem Portal
Users will notice a new look for the Portal. The design features a new SureChem logo and colour scheme, echoing the style of Digital Science. Users can also more easily access information about SureChem products, pricing and databases.

Products
SureChem Brochure »SureChem products are designed to make chemical patent search easier and accessible to a wider community of users. Originally founded as a standalone company in November 2007, SureChem was acquired in December 2009 by Macmillan Publishers. SureChem products are now developed and sold by Digital Science, the scientific technology business unit of Macmillan Publishers.
SureChem delivers full-text patent chemistry data and services in three distinct offerings to ways for different users and use cases. All products feature structures extracted from the full text of patent documents, updated within 24 hours of patent data issuance from the relevant authorities. SureChem users own whatever data they access or export.
Web Portal
The SureChem Web Portal allows end-users to:
- perform online structure and keyword searches
- navigate to the most relevant sections of the document
- export search results to the user’s desktop
Search options include substructure, similarity, exact match and chemical name, along with Boolean keyword and patent field queries, all of which can be combined.
Web Service
The SureChem Web Service is an enterprise product that:
- accesses the complete SureChem database of chemical structures and XML patent documents
- enables integration of patent chemistry search with internal applications and workflows
- allows enabling batch searching, current awareness updates and custom data displays.
SureChem hosts all data and search functionality. The interface is REST-based with requests implemented using regular HTTP verbs such as GET and POST
Database
The SureChem Database is an enterprise product that:
- provides the complete collection of SureChem’s chemical structures and patent metadata in-house
- enables batch screening and analysis behind the firewall
- allows for integration with internal applications, workflows and proprietary or third-party datasets
Data is supplied via secure ftp in tab delimited format, updated with the same frequency as the Web Portal and Web Service
